This recipe was passed down in my family from generation to generation. Well, maybe that only happened once. But my children will certainly be eating them, so that makes them something of an edible family heirloom, doesn’t it?
Plus, they’re deliciously nutritious, so they allow us to scrap the age-old question of whether it’s better to feel guilty about eating lots of brownies or sad about not eating any. They’re sweet, beautiful, and nutritious. And really, can you think of anything more to ask for?
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups Walnuts
- 1 1/2 cups Pecans
- 1 1/2 cups Dates pitted
- 1 1/2 cups Raisins
- 3/4 cup Cacao Powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 to 1 tbsp Coarse-Ground Salt do not substitute fine-ground
- 1/3 cup Shredded Coconut optional
Servings:
Instructions
- In a food processor, grind the nuts until finely ground. Add cacao powder and salt and mix. Do not over-mix, or it will become oily.
- Add raisins and vanilla. Then add dates, one at a time while it's whirring. Continue until the dates are thoroughly mixed in and they have a squishable, brownie-like texture.
- Roll into balls. If desired, pour coconut into a small bowl and roll each ball until covered.

Yes! These are really amazing chocolate treats. Your generation has added a new chocolate dimension. We old folks used only a half cup of cacao, but I like it even better your way!
